Genoa Hop-on Hop-off Bus: Is the Ticket Worth It?
Updated October 26, 2026 · 5 min read
The €25 sightseeing-bus ticket is useful for an overview or for saving your legs, but it is poor value for one short ride. It covers one or two days and has 4.0 stars from 1,885 reviews.
What you actually get
The operator runs two routes with 11 stops each. They connect Porto Antico, Via Garibaldi, Piazza De Ferrari and Boccadasse, so the bus reaches both the compact centre and the coastal district that takes longer to reach on foot.
The honest drawback
Traffic can make the timetable less useful than the route map suggests, and the open upper deck offers little shelter in rain or strong sun. The bus also cannot show you the narrow caruggi: you still need to walk for the old town itself.
Our recommendation
Book the €25 hop-on hop-off ticket when Boccadasse and the central sights must fit into one easy circuit, or when repeated rests matter. Walk and use ordinary public transport if your priority is the historic centre and you are comfortable on uneven streets.
How to use a day ticket well
Start with one almost complete circuit before you begin hopping off. That gives you a sense of distance and prevents spending the first hour waiting at two adjacent stops. Then choose one distant stop, such as Boccadasse, and one central cluster around Via Garibaldi or Piazza De Ferrari. Download or photograph the current timetable, and note the final bus from your last stop.
A one-day ticket suits a cruise passenger or first-time visitor with limited walking capacity. A two-day version only earns its place if you will use the bus on both days; it should not replace the city’s ordinary public transport for simple point-to-point travel.
